Headmaster’s Message :: Biography

Creating effective learning conditions begin with the beliefs that we hold about
children and about education. Dekalb Academy has, in the past year
rallied the “Charter” community around five core beliefs:

1. Children come first.

2. Parents are our partners.

3. Leadership and accountability are the keys to our success.

4. It takes the entire community to ensure the success of all of our students.

5. Absolute Victory is in the classroom.

These are not just words on a page and they do not stand alone. These
beliefs infuse all of Dekalb Academy’s work and they remind us that
improving achievement for all students at the Academy requires
collaboration to support improvement on multiple forms. This support
not only includes intensive efforts to improve the quality of teaching
and learning in all classrooms, but also efforts to address systemic
barriers to improvement.
